Ethnic Minorities

Minorities or ethnic groups are often discriminated in various fields, such as education, health and/or access to basic needs. Roma people represent the mot numerous ethnic minorities in Europe, especially in the Eastern countries.

The Roma Rights Centre is a specialised organisation which aims to fight discrimination, racism and human rights violations which affects Roma people.

The Financial’ reports that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern about the continued serious and widespread discrimination against Roma children, and their “systemic and unlawful” segregation from mainstream education. Janez Lenarčič, the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights said that " Ensuring equal access of children to quality education is fundamental for the integration of Roma and Sinti. It is therefore in the best interest of the Czech Republic to desegregate schools without delay and not waste another school year”.

Présentation du dernier Rapport établi par le Collectif National Droits de l’Homme Romeurope : « Les Roms, boucs-émissaires d’une politique sécuritaire qui cible les migrants et les pauvres ».

Ce Rapport dresse un bilan des politiques publiques menées ces deux dernières années à l’encontre des Roms migrants vivant en France en condition de grande précarité et en constate les conséquences néfastes. La pression policière, les expulsions systématiques et leur cortège de débordements se sont fortement intensifiés à l’encontre de ces populations. Cela aggrave les conditions d’existence de ces familles et les tensions sociales.

Le Collectif y dénonce la stigmatisation et les discriminations dont sont victimes les quelques 20 000 Roms d’origine étrangère présents sur le territoire et le renforcement des politiques de rejet aussi iniques qu’inefficaces.
Ce document fournit, entre autres, des informations circonstanciées sur les questions liées au séjour, à l’emploi, à l’habitat et à la santé. Il revient également sur le projet présenté par la France à la Commission européenne de « Stratégie nationale pour l’inclusion des Roms » et ses lacunes.
